Omar Al Marzouqi

In the world of showjumping, every detail matters. The angle of approach, the timing of the jump, and the delicate balance between rider and horse can mean the difference between victory and defeat. But the real challenge extends beyond the competition arena.

How does an athlete balance grueling daily training, international competitions, and academic commitments? How do you chase success without losing sight of everything else? For Omar Al Marzouqi, maintaining that balance was never a choice. It was a necessity—one that led him to stand on some of the world’s most prestigious podiums.

A Rider from The Start

Omar’s journey with horses began when he was just three years old, riding a small pony for the first time. That moment sparked a passion that would shape his future. Day by day, his love for equestrian sports grew stronger, and the arena became his second home. With the support of his father, riding was never just a pastime. It was a daily commitment that instilled discipline and determination.

Balancing the Saddle and The Classroom

In the Al Marzouqi household, excelling in equestrian sports never came at the expense of education. Omar’s father set a strict rule—if his grades dropped by three points, he would have to stay away from riding for a week. If they fell by five, he would be banned from the club for an entire month.

This challenge motivated him to master the art of balance, dedicating himself fully to both his studies and his training. Today, after earning a bachelor’s degree from Sorbonne University and continuing his postgraduate studies at the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, he is living proof that passion and responsibility can go hand in hand.

From Local Competitions to The Olympics

Omar entered his first local competitions at the age of nine. By twelve, he was competing on the international stage in the UK under the supervision of the International Federation for Equestrian

Sports. His journey continued, leading him to the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018, where he made history as the first Emirati to win a silver medal in his category.

His success did not stop there. At the 2022 Asian Games in China, he won a silver medal in the individual event and a bronze with his team. But for him, the ultimate test was the 2024 Paris Olympics, an experience that gave him the skills and confidence to aim even higher in the years ahead.

More than Just a Sport

For Omar, equestrianism is not just about skill. It is about dedication, patience, and a deep connection with the horse. Unlike other sports, where an athlete relies on equipment, showjumping is built on trust and partnership. Every morning, he visits his horses, ensuring they are healthy, prepared, and ready for training. These small moments of care make all the difference in competition, where mere seconds separate victory from defeat.

A Rider’s Advice: Success Takes Time

Omar’s father once told him something he has never forgotten: "Do not chase victory. It will come to you when the time is right."

Losses and setbacks are part of the journey. They are opportunities to learn and grow. For Omar, every challenge is a stepping stone toward his ultimate dream—to represent the UAE on the world’s biggest stages and leave a lasting mark on the world of equestrian sports.
